FAQ

1. Q: What is the Aqara motion sensor RTCGQ11LM and what does it do?
A: It is a Zigbee motion detector that uses infrared sensing to detect human movement and trigger smart scenes in HomeKit, Mi Home, or Aqara environments, making it a reliable Aqara motion sensor option for automated spaces.
2. Q: Do I need an Aqara gateway hub to use HomeKit with this sensor?
A: Yes. An Aqara gateway hub (sold separately) is required to connect the Aqara motion sensor to Apple Home app via HomeKit, and it can also integrate with Mi Home.
3. Q: What apps can control this Aqara motion sensor?
A: It works with Apple Home app (HomeKit), Aqara Home app, and Mi Home app when linked through the Aqara gateway hub; the Aqara motion sensor integrates into HomeKit automations.
4. Q: How wide is the detection angle and how far does it reach?
A: The sensor covers 170° and detects motion up to about 7 meters, suitable for hallways, entryways, and rooms.
5. Q: How is installation done?
A: The kit includes a stand and sticker; you can mount it with the included stand for 360° rotation—no tools required.
6. Q: What about battery life?
A: The CR2450 battery is included and is designed to last up to about 2 years under normal usage, reducing maintenance.
7. Q: Is this safe for long-term use in living spaces?
A: Yes. The shell uses anti-UV materials and flame-retardant components to withstand daily use, with a wide operating temperature range.
8. Q: Can I customize where motion triggers occur?
A: With the Aqara hub-based setup, you can integrate the sensor into scenes like turning lights on at dusk or sending a notification when motion is detected within the HomeKit or Mi Home ecosystems.
9. Q: Is it compatible with Mijia and HomeKit ecosystems?
A: Yes. It supports Mijia/Mi Home and HomeKit through the Aqara gateway hub, enabling cross-ecosystem automations and easy control of the Aqara motion sensor.
10. Q: Does it require WiFi to function?
A: The sensor communicates via Zigbee and relies on the Aqara hub for bridging to other networks; it can operate with limited WiFi since processing is local to the hub.
11. Q: What’s included in the box?
A: Motion Sensor, Stand Holder, Sticker, and Quick Start Guide, so you can install quickly and start automating with the Aqara motion sensor.
