Base of cartridge is the lid over battery compartment and maybe screwed like any lid.
According to my understanding of instructions you must place this in the bore after siding in with a bench vise aiming to soght the laser at no more than 25 yards the extent of its visible distance with the sites lined up correctly you should have good aiming after that.
You're not however able to close the receiver if i understand the directions correctly as this might damage the device.
Unable to use for testing purposes as this would require both a firearm and a vice for use i am sure that if the laser works that it will work for it's stated purpose
